New Zealand went on to win the OFC U-19 Championship, qualifying for the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup. Herdman was awarded the Golden Ball for the tournament. On 23 March 2023 Herdman made his first appearance for the New Zealand U23's in a game against China U23's. He scored the winner 3 days later in the second game of the two-game series against China.
